We Just Watched… Bad Boys for Life (2020)

Seventeen years after the exercise in excess that was Michael Bay’s Bad Boys II we finally get a threequel for a franchise that people feel surprisingly strongly about. And imagine my surprise when the reviews for this instalment weren’t just okay, they were actually great.

Final Crisis is deeply flawed, yet captivating. It’s head-scratching at times, and at others it’s seemingly far too straightforward. Characters will make grand speeches about the nature of good and evil, followed by a dumb joke. It’s Grant Morrison’s take on the epic, crossover event.

Doctor Who – ‘Fugitive of the Judoon’ Review

What an episode! The return of the Judoon ended up being the least of this episode’s surprises. Captain Jack is back and better than ever, there’s something going on with a cyberman, the Timelords have made a return, and most importantly, there’s a new Doctor.

We Just Watched… The Two Popes (2019)

Based on true events, The Two Popes follows the meeting of Pope Benedict XVI (Anthony Hopkins) and the future Pope Francis (Jonathan Pryce), two men with wildly different interpretations of the Catholic faith and very separate ideas of how the church should adapt to the ever-changing modern world.

Uncut Gems (2020) Review

‘Uncut Gems’ is a deeply unpleasant experience that I wholeheartedly recommend. Starring Adam Sandler in a performance that definitely should have got him an Oscar nomination, the film moves at a million miles a minute and never lets up.

Doctor Who – ‘Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror’ Review

After last week’s misfire of an episode, I was nervous for this one. But Jodie Whittaker’s era of Doctor Who has been commended for its historical episodes, a kind of episode that the show all-too-often messes up. And with an interesting premise around Nikola Tesla and America’s gilded age, this episode has a lot going for it.

in ‘1917’, Sam Mendes shows Christopher Nolan how it’s meant to be done. Shot in a much-discussed ‘single take’, it’s as much a horror film as a war film.

We’ve seen countless times how The United States of America deals with threats, but this comic asks us to consider the question; what if that threat was a little closer to home? Would you feel the same?

It’s a knockout story that’s well-worth reading, now more than ever.
