Torchwood – Season 2 Review

When Torchwood came back for its second series, it had it all figured out. The adult elements had been fine-tuned, the stories were more confident, and there was a real sense of self-awareness about the whole thing. For the most part, it’s really excellent science fiction.

Torchwood – Season 1 Review

I feel like Torchwood has kinda got a bad reputation since it aired. Billed as the “adult” version of Doctor Who, the show lived up to the description. It’s full of the sort of violence, swearing, and sex that would make The Doctor blush. And yeah, some of it’s pretty silly. And a lot of it hasn’t aged particularly well. But once you get past that, it’s a really fun science fiction show with a consistent first season – with a good number of episodes that are truly superb.

Doctor Who – “Ascension of The Cybermen” Review

The penultimate episode of season 12 of Doctor Who may have somehow left us with more questions than answers as we hurtle into next weeks finale, but it was a fantastic episode all the same.

Whether the writing team can stick the landing next week with all of these questions up in the air is something we’ll have to wait for but ‘Ascension of The Cybermen’ was a clever and thrilling episode of TV.

After the high concept shenanigans of last week’s episode, this week’s episode of Doctor Who was a seemingly straight forward affair; part ghost story, part famous-historical-figure episode.

As the episode went on, however, it became clear that maybe it wasn’t as straight forward as it first seemed.

Doctor Who – ‘Can You Hear Me?’ Review

Team TARDIS are split up this week, as The Doc drops off the group for a return trip to Sheffield. And this episode has what you’ve come to expect from Doctor Who; science fiction nonsense, spectacle, aliens and monsters (some of the best we’ve had in a while too). But it’s far more concerned with the well-being of the companions, something the show all too rarely touches upon. And we discover that when these guys aren’t battling intergalactic threats, they’re fighting their own demons back home.

Doctor Who – ‘Praxeus’ Review

The universe-shattering events of last week take a backseat, as The Doc tries to once again save the human race from a problem that they’ve kinda got themselves into.

We should’ve been more careful with those micro plastics, guys.

What an episode! The return of the Judoon ended up being the least of this episode’s surprises. Captain Jack is back and better than ever, there’s something going on with a cyberman, the Timelords have made a return, and most importantly, there’s a new Doctor.

After last week’s misfire of an episode, I was nervous for this one. But Jodie Whittaker’s era of Doctor Who has been commended for its historical episodes, a kind of episode that the show all-too-often messes up. And with an interesting premise around Nikola Tesla and America’s gilded age, this episode has a lot going for it.

After winning a holiday (just go with it) the gang are teleported to a scenic holiday resort – that just happens to have been built on the surface of a dead planet. It’s a mixed bag, but has a twist that makes it worth watching.
