On a number of occasions, Mark Millar has been referred to as “the poor man’s Garth Ennis” – which I don’t think is entirely fair. But this is one of his edgier stories. Nemesis raises the question; what if Batman was evil?

What I’m Reading – ‘Final Crisis’ by Grant Morrison

Final Crisis is deeply flawed, yet captivating. It’s head-scratching at times, and at others it’s seemingly far too straightforward. Characters will make grand speeches about the nature of good and evil, followed by a dumb joke. It’s Grant Morrison’s take on the epic, crossover event.

What I’m Reading – ‘We Stand On Guard’ by Brian K. Vaughan, Steve Skroce, and Matt Hollingsworth

We’ve seen countless times how The United States of America deals with threats, but this comic asks us to consider the question; what if that threat was a little closer to home? Would you feel the same?

It’s a knockout story that’s well-worth reading, now more than ever.

The Witcher Episode 8 Review – ‘Much More’

After eight episodes, the first season of The Witcher is at an end. Along the way it became the biggest show in the world, something I’m not sure anyone anticipated. But how did it wrap it all up? Was it a satisfying conclusion? I’d argue that by illuminating some of the details missing from the books, and because of that touching final scene, it was a huge success.

The Witcher Episode 7 Review – ‘Before a Fall’

With only two episodes left, The Witcher still has a few things to sort out. Ciri is still out there alone, Nilfgaard is on the attack, Geralt is reluctant to grasp his destiny, and Yen is having a crappy time of things trying to find her place in the world. Not to mention the wider political intrigue and backstabbing taking place in the royal courts across the Continent. Luckily, this episode goes a long way to tying up these disparate threads.

The Witcher Episode 6 Review – ‘Rare Species’

In the best episode yet, Geralt is recruited by a mysterious but charming figure to accompany him on a dragon hunt. Initially wary of the idea, he quickly changes his mind when he discovers Yennefer will be going on the hunt too. Elsewhere in time, Ciri confronts the doppler and things get out of hand for Cahir.

The Witcher Episode 5 Review – ‘Bottled Appetites’

Based on “The Last Wish”, one of the best of the original short stories, this episode sees Geralt and Yennefer cross paths for the first time. And their relationship promises to be an interesting one. At the very least, this makes the timeline a lot simpler. Ciri’s plot moves forward too, as she is taken from Brokilon by a doppler impersonating her old friend Mousesack.

The Witcher Episode 4 Review – ‘Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials’

Geralt attends a party with Dandelion and things go awry. Ciri drinks the Kool-Aid in Brokilon. And Yennefer gets into a whole heap of trouble with a mysterious assassin and his awesome spider companion.

This episode also clears things up a bit, regarding the timelines.

In what is perhaps the simplest episode yet, Geralt takes on a deadly contract. Like the games and books, he accepts the task and is soon thrust into a world of human drama that he did not bargain for. And it becomes a whole lot more complicated very quickly. Elsewhere, years earlier, Yennefer of Vengerberg becomes the woman she was always destined to be, and starts her new life.
