This week The Walking Dead adapts the fantastic stand alone volume of Robert Kirkman comic book series, ‘Here’s Negan’. It’s something that’s been long awaited in TWD community, pretty much since the volume released in 2016, and it was easy to imagine Jeffrey Dean Morgan slipping into the role of pre-apocalypse Negan. And despite this adaptation being part of the run of COVID episodes, no sign of filming hindrances causes by pandemic precautions are on show here. In fact, ‘Here’s Negan’ is not only the best episode of this recent truncated season, it is one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead ever.

This week sees the latest in the series of pandemic episodes for The Walking Dead, and this is the one that perhaps demonstrates the limitations enforced on the show by a global pandemic in which close contact is generally considered a bad idea.

As I wrote last week, the COVID restrictions placed on TV and film production have had a noticeable affect on certain productions. From storyline changes in TV shows to films having release dates pushed back multiple times, the industry has almost universally suffered. The Walking Dead on the other hand, has found the positive in the situation more than most.

The Walking Dead is back! And in a strange turn of events, this isn’t the beginning of a new season – or the return after a mid-season break. No, this is the return of TWD for a bonus set of episodes, added on to the 16 episode run season 10 had, despite the fact that the season 10 ‘finale’ aired months ago. This unprecedented course of action is due to the unprecedented times we live in and the show runners do a great job of bringing us the zombie stories we love in the time of a pandemic. These episodes hopefully won’t feel tacked on; if this first episode is anything to go by then they certainly won’t.

I don’t know how they do it. Even after ten years – and the same amount of seasons – nothing gets me hyped like a big battle on this show. This time it ‘s the battle for Hilltop. And judging by the end of this episode, our heroes are going to need a miracle if they hope to win.

Finally, after years of waiting, the Negan fans got the episode we’d all been waiting for. Sure, we’ve had Negan episodes in the past but this was the first time we could genuinely root for him – as the honest to god good guy no less.

After what feels like a very short hiatus, The Walking Dead is back for its first completely Rick-free season. The second half of the last season proved dropping the main character from the show was something it could survive, but as we move into seasonal double digits, is the loss of Rick still something we can live with?

A late review of The Walking Dead’s latest finale.
The Storm is an emotional and optimistic end to a fantastic season of television, offering a few teasing glimpses of what to expect then the show returns for the tenth season.

“I’ve done things to protect this place. Some things I’m not proud of. Some I try to forget.” Almost 5 years to the day that the classic (but horrific) Walking Dead episode, ‘The Grove’ aired, the show decides to pause the Whisperer storyline for another horrific and brutal episode. Pausing the ongoing narrative at this point in […]

‘Bounty’ is one of the best episodes in the show’s long run. It has two tonally opposite plot threads and both work perfectly. There’s a great mix of thrills and humour, and some really tense moments.
