100 Words or Less – The Voices

100 Words or less

Title – The Voices

Released – 2015

Director – Marjane Satrapi

Starring – Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick.

Review – The Voices is likely to be the strangest film you’ve seen in a long time. A black comedy of the most morbid variety, Ryan Reynolds plays Jerry. A man who hears voices that occasionally tell him to kill. Reynolds gives the best performance I’ve ever seen him give, making Jerry entirely sympathetic whilst committing the worst acts imaginable. Reynolds also performs the voices Jerry hears, manifested as a sad sack dog and an angry Scottish cat. It’s sadder and weirder than you expect but inside it there are moments of beauty (Jerry’s view of the world, in florescent greens and pinks, especially). Also, stick around for the best credits scene ever.
