Doctor Who – The Specials (2013) Rewatch and Review

Following the cliffhanger ending of the seventh series, Doctor Who had two specials before the next series could begin. The first of these is “The Day of the Doctor”, which is still the biggest thing the show has ever done. This was followed at Christmas by “The Time of the Doctor”, which saw Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor take his final bow.

Doctor Who – Series 7 Rewatch and Review

Series 7 of Doctor Who is often considered to be a bit messy. Like the previous series, it’s once again quite literally a series of two halves – with the first half following the Amy and Rory and the second half picking up with new companion Clara, played by Jenna Coleman. Because of this, the series often feels like two separate seasons, and not one consistent thing. And with Amy and Rory’s tragic exit at the halfway mark, combined with The Doctor’s own departure at the end of the two specials, this is a series of goodbyes. But that doesn’t mean it’s not still incredibly entertaining.

I’ll admit that I was weary about David Tennant’s regeneration into Matt Smith. Smith is a phenomenal actor, but I had a few reservations about his time on the show. It was during these years that the show really blew up, becoming a big deal across the pond and cementing the reputation of the actors and creators. But as with things like this, when the goofy, nerdy thing that you like reaches the mainstream, it stops feeling like your thing. Suddenly you have to share it with the rest of the world.

But upon rewatching the first of Smith’s series as the Eleventh Doctor, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
