HBO’s fantastically ambitious pulp series comes to an end in a messy but exciting finale full of ends and new beginnings.
Read More Lovecraft Country – ‘Full Circle’ ReviewThe real-life 1921 massacre in Tulsa took centre stage in this week’s episode. Thanks to the recently discovered time machine – and newly-returned Hippolyta’s knowledge – Tic, Leti, and Montrose journey back to Tulsa to retrieve the book of names on the night it is destroyed.Â
Read More Lovecraft Country – ‘Rewind 1921’ ReviewThe Walking Dead is back! Finally! Unfortunately, once this episode ends it’s taken away from us for another long stretch. This episode isn’t the start of a new season as one might expect at this time of year, instead it’s the long delayed season 10 finale – 6 months later than planned.
Read More The Walking Dead – ‘A Certain Doom’ ReviewOn the hottest day of the summer, the characters of Lovecraft Country face the creepiest monster yet as all the secrets and plotting of the past seven episodes come together in preparation for the end. And hanging over it all is the recent brutal murder of Emmett Till and the shockwave that this horrible crime sends through the Black community.

This week, the show takes a science fiction turn as Hippolyta becomes the discoverer that she’s always known she could be. I’d love to see someone’s face as they flicked over to this episode, without having any idea what the show was about. It’s bizarre and beautiful, and is Lovecraft Country at its finest.Â

The other episodes have made some pretty significant departures from the source material, but this episode is the first one to move away from it completely. I was hugely excited about the film, if […]
Read More Déjà Vu (2006) is better than Tenet (2020)The show takes another step up this week as it delves into full-on (and horrific) body horror. Ruby makes a deal with the devil in order to live the life of a successful white woman, and she comes out of ‘Strange Case’ as an entirely different person – though it has nothing to do with her skin colour. Elsewhere, Tic and Leti get closer than ever in the aftermath of Montrose’s terrible decision.
Read More Lovecraft Country – ‘Strange Case’ ReviewIn another episode, Lovecraft Country changes the rules of the game once again, and presents us with a very different kind of pulp scenario. ‘History of Violence’ feels more like action adventure stories, like Indiana Jones or The Goonies and it’s a lot of fun. Read More Lovecraft Country – ‘History of Violence’ ReviewAfter the explosive and climatic events in Ardham last week, the gang are all back together in Chicago (minus one Uncle George). Atticus is staying with his Aunt, Montrose has fallen back off the wagon, and Leti has purchased a big, spooky home. From racist neighbours, to evil cops turning a blind eye, as well as ghosts haunting this new home, there is danger coming at them on all sides. But after watching Leti with that baseball bat, you realise that its the white supremacists and supernatural villains who might need to call for backup.Â
