Title – The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Phantom Train of Doom
Released – 1999
Director – Peter Macdonald
Starring – Sean Patrick Flanery, Ronny Coutteure, Paul Freeman.
Review – This Young Indy adventure came bundled with the original three films when I received the VHS box set in the 90s, so I always just considered it equally canon as the Harrison Ford trilogy. And it holds up!
The first half is great, with the eponymous locomotive still being incredibly cool. There’s a terrific shootout and tightrope act atop the moving train, which rocks. But I’d forgotten how good the second half was. The setpiece on the balloon is incredible, with Indy patching holes while fighting off Germans. Feels like proper Indiana Jones.
Looking forward to watching more of these.
