Review – After a bloody robbery, a group of Confederate deserters hole up in an abandoned plantation, waiting to split their gold. And it doesn’t let up from there. Dead Birds does a lot with a little thanks to a reliable cast of actors and great cinematography, combined with some genuinely effective scares and an interesting story that mixes demons, ritual sacrifice, and curses against the backdrop of the Civil War. The CG is a little ropey at times, but the film knows when to show restraint. A fascinating curiosity—think Event Horizon in the Old West and you’d be halfway there.
